we did it fellows. with the help of all you have given the mdwfp cause to re-open the discussions on the new handgrabling regulations. I have been assured by Mr. Dennis Rieckie, biologist, that the mdwfp well re-word the regulation to allow deployment of fish attracting structure of some type. it seems the regulations pertained to enclosed structures that attracted cat fish, not the open structures we use. there was mention of materials used and placement of such structures. who knows, fellows, we may make history today. thank all of you much. let's hope this opened a new avenue for sportfishermen to communicate with their respective state governments about legislation or laws that affect them and their favorite sport. we fishermen in the great state of mississippi could , with the help of the mdwfp, create something that could be the envy of state agencies and fishermen from many of our sister states. you did a great job, all of you. thanks again. john wills. catch the latest on mdwfp fishing forum.

Mr. Riecke has posted on the mdwfp forums concerning this matter. Looks like some changes are on the way that will allow certain types of fish attractors.

Outlawing the fish attractors was not the intended purpose of this new regulation and it looks like the powers that be are working to make changes to allow them soon.

And heck structure don't hurt people............ riding a waverunner double at midnight and smashing into another one does. Sometimes people do the dumbest things. Heck it was even cloudy that night, go figure.

agree...pvc is not biodegradeable...it is pollution.

i fish a state park lake, and usually they will cut some trees down and put them in the water for structure, and it is good enough for me. jmo

they probably have that rule because some people probably dont use their heads and put huge structures in a marina or something... you guys might be sensible and put them in good places, but i doubt everyone is

Well has anyone heard if and when we can start putting PVC beds back in MS waters.

Also HurricaneJM sounds like the kind that has no ideal....... AS if the state parks are cutting down trees for beds. So you think theres noting used that will not harm the waters there?
Like wire to hold the blocks on the trees to sink them?? Concrete is a pollution..
Look up how many bad chemicals are in it. It will eat your skin up. Never have had PVC do that yet..

    Have a great day.

Wow, this is a touchy situation, most of the post i read are from Ms fisherman and some i agree with and some i dont.
Pollution:the action of polluting, especially by environmental contamination with man-made waste.
The pvc isn't contaminated and the structure is not someones waste, it is something man made to improve the habitat of aquatic life. How is that pollution?
The concrete used to anchor them? Well if concrete is so contaminating, why does our highway departments use it for bridge pillars and coverts in the roadways? The use of metal (ex. window weights) isn't supposed to be good either, but no one is going out there to retrieve all the sunken barges etc. setting on the bottoms of water bodies.
I agree that most of the older lakes need upgrading on structure and on the issue of designated water sport locations on various lakes and such.
And I know, some of yall are thinking that i dont even live in Ms, why am i concerned with it. well, if it can happen to Ms, then it could happen here also.
I haven't read where it has been changed yet, so Good Luck to yall with this new law, I hope yall have done enough to have it changed.

On the ideal of what to use for structure that may be in compliance with your local laws but would be much heavier than the current pvc/cane structures would be building a condo with shipping pallets from you local lumberyards, etc. You can take 4 pallets the same size and stand them up so the slats on them would run vertical, space them about 18 inches apart and attach them together with treated 2x4's.(most pallets are made of gum, so they last a long time) It would be about 4ft by 4ft square. This gives the fish the ability to swim through the slats and still have cover. What to use to anchor them? I am gonna leave that one up to you.
Sorry for the long post, just thought i would throw my two cents in.
Happy fishin to everyone and remember, be nice to your local Wildlife Agents.

But you also need to watch pallets. AS some are treated for rot. And those are not good for anything.
But it would be nice for the states to post what they think is the best beds to use. And what they would like to see put out for the fish.
But I drought that would ever happen. As if you ask 10 wildlife agents there 9 different answers.
