There is no need to burn any leaves off. The fish will find the new brushpile within a few minutes or few hours. The burning will just deteriorate the brushpile not enhance it. A close friend is with the Wildlife Dept. and he has installed a cedar brushpile and the very next day electro fished the pile and shocked crappie off of it.
I like to place several about 100' apart. Find a good drop off or whaterever that holds fish. Then add one each way about 100'. Sometimes I will go back and do one each way another 100'. That way you can start on one end and fish several without having fire up the big motor. I usually catch a few off each condo and when it slows I move to the next one. On a slow day we may fish 30 to 40 spots and this saves lots of motoring.
