    Default Homemade Movie Theater Popcorn

Well after reading the ingredients in some microwave popcorn bags I decided to make my own Old School. If you would like to know how Movie Theater popcorn is made read on.

The ingredients are mainly White popping corn, I got this bag at Walmart. Coconut Oil also from Walmart. Flavacol Salt Seasoning & Butter Flavored Popcorn Topping I bought from Amazon, they can be bought together if you look for the combined page.
You want to use a pot with a clear lid to see what's going on. Coconut oil is a solid at room temperature, I first add the spoon full to the pot till it melts. Then I add 1/3 Cup White Popping Corn (the Yellow Popcorn is Tough) to the coconut oil and shake it all level in the pot. With the heat one click above medium I watch the kernels simmer with the lid on but cocked to one side to let the steam out.

Once the popping starts it goes very fast. When it starts to slow I turn off the heat but leave the pot on the hot eye a little longer but cock the lid more for the steam to escape. When its just a pop now and then I slide the pot over to a cold eye, remove the lid, and make a few circles in the freshly popped corn with the Butter Flavoring. A quick stir then the Flavacol Salt is added. Flavacol salt is very salty and very fine grain, I'm using a Pepper Shaker as a Salt Shaker has too large of holes.

As you can see almost all of the popcorn kernels pop, very few Old Maids. This popcorn tastes exactly like what you buy at the Movie Theater for pennies a serving.

I hope you make some for yourself, always Movie Night around here.

We’ve thought about making our own several times but ended up just using the bags for convenience. We really should make it. Thanks for sharing

Not to be a stick in the mud but why not use REAL BUTTER for "butter flavoring"? Why use a chem lab concoction? Hot air pop, melted butter, pickling salt to taste. Add other flavorings like parmesien cheese or black pepper or if you want the sweet kettlecorn taste go with the dash of sugar or whatever.
Gotta be healthier than anything out of a bag.
Yes, I was talking to myself; sometimes even I have to ask for expert advice.

Bud this is how the Movie Theaters make their popcorn. Not better than all natural but better than microwave. I hope you make your own with the flavors you suggest as they all sound very good.

I use a dedicated extra little pot that works on the Induction range and use the same bowl. After eating I rinse both with hot water, wipe dry with paper towels and leave on the range till next time. By eating this popcorn (I use Cavenders Greek Seasoning almost exclusively) instead of a meal at night I have lost 12lbs and dropped my blood pressure over 15 points. Before Covid we went to Theaters to watch a new movie, date night, dinner & a movie. After 30 years of marriage I still take my wife on a date. Well I love Movie Theater Popcorn with all the trimmings. It was posted here as most don't know how to match that Movie theater flavor. The box of Flavacol will last forever it seems and the butter flavor is used sparingly. Most of the Yellow color comes from the Flavacol, it's dark yellow.

The wife likes date night as well. Me not so much. At least the dinner part. It hard to find a place that can match or exceed what we can cook at home. I am certain you have to same experience

We really don't go out much to eat. Now we love Tacos from a real Mexican Place, where they boil the beef down into that rich, wonderful filling. One of the local higher end restaurants was using a couple of my recipes for a while but since mine had numerous steps they quit. Sushi is another meal always eaten out. Prime Rib is best eaten when someone else cooks it so Steak Houses we visit too. You are right about the rest, if we are eating out it is because we are on Ross Barnett.
