I got my hands on some Gold SeriesRoad Runners. I love that they have the flashy chenille body material plus foil paint on the head. It gives it more flash and it's not a plastic that will wear out over time. I decided to try them dipping Lilly Pads, and boy do they work well. Yes, down here in Florida we've had an extra warm winter. The Crappie think it's Spring and are in the pads now, wow.
Me and my buddy William had a blast in the pads.
And after the pad bite slowed we decided to cover some ground pulling my Slab Rig. Long lining with double rigs, Road Runner in front and a paddle tail grub on an unweighted hook behind it.
I hope you can see the line in the pic below. This is a double rig setup. A Tru-Turn hook with a Mr. Crappie Slabalicious plastic grub used somewhat like a trailer hook behind a Road Runner. The way I figure it the flash from the Road Runner brings them in, and if they're not quite aggressive enough to hit the Road Runner that day, they might try a bite at the trailer bait. I love this rig and pretty much use it exclusively when I'm long lining with double rigs.
What I do now that's a little different is, I tie an extra knot in the loop the Road Runner is on. It keeps the line stiffer and away from the rest of the rig. Holds it all in position better. I got this idea from a Kyle Schoenhear YouTube video where he was making a bottom bouncer setup.
And this brings me to the Midget Crappie I caught on a road runner this trip out. Isn't this thing crazy looking. See how big the eyes are, and the size of the head. An it has that short little body. Very strange indeed. I don't know of any nuke plans around here. Not sure how that kinda thing can happen. Poor food supply causing stunted fish I suppose.
Here's a second picture just to show you it's not a photo shopped image.
Crappie should not look this way. This guy sure needs a better diet!
These Gold Series Road Runners are great. I know I'll be leaving one tied on my 14 ft Uncle Bucks BnM jigging pole in my boat from now on just in case I see some inviting Little Pads.
Slab I like that chenille body instead of plastic too and you dip those in pads or trees? have a bunch with plastic and hair jig roadrunners, will have to try it.
One of if not the best lure for catching fish ever designed. The Road Runner.Jimmy Houston has sold a lot of Roadrunners. Thanks Roadrunner. Thanks TJ/Slab.
That little fish wanted to be big!! Those new Roadrunners look good and will surely do very well. I still have the rig on the pole you rigged it on in my boat, another very good idea. That's why YOU DA MAN!!
