I sort of have a skimpy fishing report today. My friend, Ricky W. and I hit the mid lake portion to crappie fish the off shore structures that are good this time of year. Alas, we didn't know that a Big Fish tournament was going on today prior to a 2 day tournament tomorrow and Sunday. There was a bass boat or two on nearly every structure that we fish, so our catching rate wasn't all that good.
We managed to eke out 7 keepers for my dinner tonight and about 15 shorts. We would only get one or two keepers from each spot that we fished. The fish that we did contact were about 15-20 feet deep and we caught them on Bobby Garland plastics in various colors. I did okay on Blue Thunder and Lovebug colors, and Ricky caught them on glow and black/purple and maybe another color of two.
On one particular spot that we like to fish, we caught several fish, but most were shorts. Only two keepers from that spot. I caught one short there on a Panfish Assassin in the 2" Lime/green color on a 1/24 oz jig head. The fish seemed to favor a 1/6 oz jig head and so I switched to that weight for most of the AM, but did catch a few on a 3/32 oz jig head. All in the main river, mid lake in and around a bunch of bass guys. Grin. It looked like Ft Loudoun lake on the weekends. Only 2 pics. Nothing big.
