A bud says hey i am going to try a spot in downtown . I said well maybe i can hit it with you for an hour or so . He hollars at me and says hey where are you ? I said fifteen minutes and i am there . Well i must say this ,EVERY species of sunfish in DFW was holed up in that little creek off the main river!
I would refer to it as a Ketchfest on steroids for many reasons , first of all if you could simply hit the water with a jig you were going to get hit within seconds or less . Second it was a mix of every kind of sunfish that reside in our area ! And third depth didnt matter at all , the entire water column was full of fish from the surface to the bottom . i even had one strike my float in the dead of winter mind you .....
Surreal describes it best with hordes of vehicles roaring by within 30 yards of you . turtles, beavers, fish and i don't want what else were all holed up in that there little protected drainage ditch . simply amazing to say the least ...we caught red ear sunfish , bluegill , long ear sunfish ,black crappie , white crappie , hybrid sunfish and large mouth bass .....
So in conclusion to this post i would say this ....NEVER say never ....break some of the traditional rules of ketchn crappie and you might find a bonanza right under your nose ....i would venture to say a large amount of anglers drove right past us while we hammered the fire out of some lips !
