I am assuming since my old motor was 24 volt I have 24 volts at the plug in some sort of combination I shouldn't have to rewire the whole boat?

No...
The orange wire will not be used....your boat is wired with 4 wires for the old 12/24 trolling motors.....all you need is a red wire for positive and a black for negative. If your using a 24 volt motor...hook two 12 volt batteries in series like I showed in my drawing.

If your old motor was a 24 volt motor, you already have 24 volts at the plug (12v red wire 24v orange like Cray said). The old style 12/24 (like on my 1991 Stratos) female plug in's were designed to work with a 12 or 24 volt trolling motor that was dictated with the male plug configuration on the end of the trolling motor and how it was wired. Take a voltage tester and test the positive orange wire and a negative black ground and you should have 24 volts there, if you have a 24 volt system already the wiring is done and the jumper for the two 12 volt batteries is already in place.
When I bought my boat it was 12/24 volt. First thing I did was to remove the orange wire and the white wire so there wouldn't be any confusion if I ever have to take it to a shop for repairs.
So I got it apart and my red wire is not ran to anything so that makes alot more sense I will get it tested out tonight.

There are some old 12/24 motors out there that have 2 red and 2 black wires (12 VDC each) going to a switch on the foot pedal. The switch is used to select 12 or 24 VDC. Guess I'm showing my age.LOL If you google "old 12/24 trolling motor connections" you will see several variations. So you need to be very sure of what you are working with so you don't have any melt downs causing a fire.
Ok I've got it up and going with the old style plug. Just a note with an xi5 THE MOTOR HAS TO BE DEPLOYED for it to power up!!!!! Thanks for all the help everyone!
