good question as my home lake isn't deep but not that shallow. lots of 8 to 10 foot water.
If the average depth on your home lake is 6 feet. Where do the crappie go in the summer? Do they still school up? How do I sniper them?

When it's hot, I catch a lot of fish suspended over deeper water. They are well off shore.
We would have weed/grass normally here in the south in a lake that shallow . The deep edge of the grass will be a good place to start . Great ambush area and shade ! Deep lake points are always a good bet . Lakes that are really shallow most often are better morning spots before it heats up .

Some shallow lakes have low oxygen . They pull up shallow or go for shade

The two lakes that are closet to me are Caddo and Cross lakes. Caddo has a Bayou on the north end that is 20'. The main lake deepest part is 10'-12'.Median is 6'. Cross lake, main lake deepest depth is 8'-10'. Median 4'.
My home waters are also shallow, I have my best luck early mornings and late evening, but I have had good success mid day by finding the deepest water I can find combined with shade such as under docks and overhanging trees.

I have fished big cypress creek, the main channel that feeds caddo lake, and the average depth is 25 to 30 feet, I have caught tons of really nice crappie on it, especially during the winter and spring months, I've been fishing it this summer, but there's so much boat traffic that it's almost not enjoyable. I haven't fished the main part of the lake very much because of how shallow it is, I've been to jeems bayou all the way up to the bridge, and only caught dinksSent from my SM-S102DL using Crappie.com Fishing mobile app
