Fished Poinsett on Sat. May 23. Fished from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.. Caught a lot of small fish. Kept 18 over 10" and several of the keepers were close to 12". The water is high and the fish are a bit sluggish. I used a white/metal flake and blue flake/white jig tipped with minnows. Fishing 10 to 12 foot deep in 16 FOW. The key was to stay close to deeper water (20 ft). You just have to sort through the small ones and move around a lot to find the quality fish. Good Luck! Ross

Thanks for the report. Now that I've moved in...I may try to sneak off for a few hours in the morning. Where's the best place to get some minnows around here (Jonesboro)?

    ceb,
4 bait shops around. quick mart on hwy 1 (stadium rd.) south of interstate about 4 miles on left as ur headed out of town towards poinsett, then there is Pillows bait in paragould which is really good and will have anything u need.(slicks/carp/goldfish/rosies/etc)
Ricks bait is located just before u get to poinsett on right, he has only been open on weekends last I checked but here is his number:8705785623
then there is Big kreek outdoors which sells live bait, no rosies though

Man, I can't believe Paragould has a bait shop with slicks. I haven't seen them in a bait shop for years. I think I would start wade fishing creeks again if I could get them.

I'm sure you're right. When I hear slicks, I think of the creek slicks. When I was a kid many years ago, Stinky Davis always had slicks at his bait shop. Now this was 45 to 50 years ago when I was 6 through 10 or 11 years old. Stinky ended up running the bait shop at the Hill Creek Marina on Greers for Musky Musgrave when I was 10 or 11. My dad really enjoyed wade fishing creeks, and I started wade fishing with him when I was about 6.

yup, rice slicks. ricks bait also carried rice slicks as well and people were fishing jugs on poinsett w/then catching good cats but when I went the last couple of times jug fishin only thing I vould get to bite were the knats or mosqitoes. maybe doing it wrong though.
Big kreek outdoors is located north of town in Bono for those interested. its got a lot of fishing tackle, worms/minnows etc and really nice folks.
