Default I wouldn't do it but......

Last week I was fishing at Burnt Cane. It had been raining, so there were only three boats in the lake---a lake that is 9 miles long. At the time, I was fishing against the bank at the base of a large tree that had fallen into the lake. (which is where the fish were) Along comes another boat and these guys tie up in the very tree I was fishing in--they were at the opposite end of the tree. I mentioned that they must have caught fish there before, and they said it was the only place in the lake they knew of where they could catch fish (except that day I guess---they didn't catch any). I'm a very cordial guy, and I'm not going to get ugly with somebody out on the lake, but that kind of thing bothers me. I passed it off and went on down the bank and caught a few more. I'm so glad that we live in a free country where we're able to do just about anything in reason that we want to, but I just don't like to fish that way, and I don't like for somebody else to do that sort of thing to me. What about everyone else? Does that bother you? Or am I being too selfish? I know there's a chance that the "somebody" was someone on here, but I'll take my chances. A little courtesy and respect goes a long way on the water! Give me a little time, and I'll be somewhere else and you can have your honeyhole!

Might not be the right thing to do but when it happens I run my trolling motor right thru their "hot spot". Happened last year @ lakeview. Guys pulled in right in front of me (10 feet) and started fishing the same log! They had to lift up their corks to keep them from getting tangled up in my trolling motor (you should have seen the mud I sitrred up). I started fishing again 10 ft in from of them w/o ever saying a word. They got the hint and left.

I agree 100% with you. I believe in giving every body their opportunity to catch fish. No fish is so important that we lose site of our respect for others. I believe there is a responsibility that comes with fishing that requires fisherman to have an honor code. I can't understand the type of people that take fish off of someone elses jug line. Also, I can't stand those that leave there jug lines for months without removing them. Remember the golden rule "do unto others as you would have them do unto you".

I should clarify what I meant by "I believe in giving every body their opportunity to catch fish". What I meant was that if I see someone in the spot I wanted to go, I let them have it. I will find another spot.

I agree, I let them have it. I'll be back later and try it then.

i guess we all experience that sort of thing at some point in time. Happened to me at lakeview last year too. I caught 4 or 5 out of one top and two guys fishing about 50 yards from me saw what was happening and moved over were i was and run into the top i was fishing. I just gave them a dirty look and moved on

i would never pull in that close. 50 yards away maybe...but some people have no shame or brains out there.

Very bad fishing manners. Nothing wrong with fishing a spot AFTER someone has left. Was taught not to crowd someone while fishing. Still believe this is best policy.

I must admit, it would bother me pretty badly if they just pulled up and tied up without saying a word. H O W E V E R.... if they eased up beside me and asked if I minded, I would let them tie up to my boat if they would like.
