Default Discussion: One Bait, One Method, One Year

Hypothetical Scenario: The Game and Fish Commission enforced a new rule: You can only fish one method, with one specific bait for the entire year, regardless of the body of water you're fishing, temps, clarity, etc...

Take the hundreads maybe thousands of dollars of gear and tackle you have accumulated and pick 1 method and 1 bait that you're going to use while this rule is in force for the next 12 months and share.

What's your "go to" ? Which skill are you most confident in that you can catch fish any water, any season of the year ? What specific bait is the "most" productive for you ?

Look forward to reading the replies from all that play my little reindeer game.

I'm taking my 11' Rear Seat Ozark Rod, equipped with my Pflueger spinning reel and 8lb braid. 1/8oz Pink Round Head. 2" Black Body/Chartreuse tail MidSouth Tube. I'm vertical jiggin'.... I'll struggle the most during the hot summer through mid October with my choice, but the rest of the year, I "should" be able to find and catch fish.

If I had to choose one bait, method, rod, etc. I would definitely be single-poling a white and chartreuse Midsouth tube on 6lb Mr. Crappie camo line with my 10' Buck's Ultimate jig pole. With the variety of lakes we have to choose from here in central Arkansas, I could, and do, catch fish year round with that setup. The biggest problem would be that you are stuck with one size and color jig head and tube. Just about every method works everywhere, all year long once you get proficient at it. But, there isn't a style or color bait out there that works on every lake, every day of the week, every season of the year.

Now, if I could have 5 colors in different sizes and styles, same with jig head, I would be good to go.

I guess I would just have to move to another state.

Ok then. If I had to! And only by shear fear of the law. I guess I would have to choose a 10ft Ozark Rod, 20lb test braid, a small Fastach Clip, and 1/16oz silver Crappie Magnet double cross jig head and the Killer Klatt crappie magnet. But I reserve the right to use a float or not!

That to me is a easy answer....spider rig double drop minnows with 14ft. b&m pro trolling pole. Minnows are most always the right color and smell. I use jigs a lot with a minnow, but in cold weather I think a minnow is better. Year round spider rigging is my final answer...

10' B&M crappie pole, 8 lb high vis yellow line, slip cork, split shot, 1/16 oz lead head jig, 1 1/2" black/chartreuse tube. With this rig, I can catch crappie, bass, bream, cats, and eyes. How could you beat it???
