    Default Who are you Arkansas??

I've talked to alot of you on here and feel like I know you all pretty good. I was just thinking last night though, I really don't know much about any of you. I know in this day and time people are funny about their information, but I thought I'd just ask the question who are you, what do you do, etc?

If you don't want to post anything thats fine also, I'm not wanting a biography, just to kind of see where everyone came from.

I'm 34 years old. I grew up in Arkadelphia. Went to high school with AgriHawg. We did everything together. He and his family were my family for a LONG time, and still are, though I don't get to see them much anymore. Graduated and went to SAU to become an agriculture (FFA) teacher. Did that for 9 years and got burnt out with it. TOO much traveling and honestly tired of dealing with people. Now I work for my father-in-law as a diesel mechanic. I LOVE it!! Yes I have hard long days, but I've learned more about fixing things...I've always been a piddler...but we are small and I have had to learn to FIX things...not always replace the part but fix the part. I also like the part that I leave it at work, I don't bring anything home anymore, and my day is up to me and only me, not how the kids acted at school.

I'm married to a wonderful and beautiful wife and we have 4 kids... 2 boys 10 & 13 yrs old and 2 girls (twins) which are 3yrs old. We own a peach orchard/Christmas tree farm here in Nashville. If you are down this way in the summer look me up and maybe we can get you some fresh peaches. We are pretty small compared to the others around here...just 400 trees. Most have 1000's. I like to do anything where I'm working with my hands, farm work, mechanic work, woodworking, jig tying...I'm always doing something.

We go to a small Baptist Church here in Nashville. We are born again Christians. My wife also home schools our kids. Mainly because of what they are around in public and the content they are learning. If you have ever considered home schooling give it a shot. Its the best things we've ever done. There is SUCH a difference in our kids.

Well thats me. If you want to post something cool. If not thats fine to. Just wanted to get to know the folks I talk to ALL the time a bit better. lol

I'll Play...I was born in Dayton Ohio almost 53 years ago. I am a 21 year retiree of the Good Ole USAF...I was a Security Forces/police officer the whole time with three combat tours. I cut my teeth crappie and smallmouth bass fishing on the small streams on our farm in Ohio and crappie fishing nearby lakes called Kiser/Indian lakes in New Carlise Oh. During this time I had made several trips to the southern states and it did not take long for me to realize they had bigger and better crappie fishing down south. So when i joined the Air Force they gave me 8 spots to pick from in the US as to where I would like to be stationed. Arkansas was one of my picks and I was stationed here at Little Rock Air Force base. I have seen and lived in allot of places in the world but I have always knew I wanted to live near the best crappie fishing in the world so becoming a DAM yankee was my choice. I have married twice and am married to one of the best women a man can ask for. I have two grown daughters and four grand sons three of whom are still too young to go fishing just yet. After retiring from the USAF, I went right to work for Hendrix College here in Conway and have been there for the last 12 years. I love taking the college kids fishing every now and then and openeing thier eyes up to something other than the college life. Problem is when I take em they keep after me to go agian and agian....so I haft to be careful. LOL I have fished for crappie most of my life but have fished for other species also. Ust to... you would not see me unless I was bass fishing...but even then I still would not get completely away from the beloved crappie. Lake Conway has always been my home lake here in Arkansas and I have been fishing it since 1982 when I came here in the USAF. A friend of mine named Tom Smith showed me the lake. Since then I have known many others who have shared time on this lake with me. Some are still here with us and some are now fishing thru me. I get allot of guff about sharing Info on this lake but I know one day I will be gone and I would just like to share my Info with as many folks as possible to pass it on to those willing to pick up the rod after I am long gone and Pass It ON.

On the down side of things I am fighting an eye problem called Histo in both eyes. It is getting to a point where I cant see to hunt anymore...drive, or work for that matter. Doctors are doing what they can but there is no cure for histo...and I have also developed caderacs from all the procedures for the Histo. So living close to a good crappie lake is important for me as i become more afraid to drive long distances. I will stay after em as long as i can see to get the job done. LOL but there may be a time when I will depend on you all to take me fishing, tie my loop knot, Trim my jig, and put a nibble on for me.

As for me I have learned to be kind and I live by this simple rule...The Father...The Family...Fishing, and Football...The four big F's (in that order). There is a fifth F but we wont talk about that one. HAHA!!!

Hi there. I'm Matt, I'm 35, live in Scott, grew up in Paragould. Been an Arkie all my life except for about 4 months when I took a job with the National Park Service in Van Buren, MO. I loved it up there on the Current River, but it wasn't home. Moved from there to Pine Bluff (White Hall) for a short 4 years while working on the campus of UAPB for the USDA. 8 yrs ago, I transfered to Stuttgart (still with the USDA), but I got married to them most pretty girl int he world, and she made me move to Scott, so I drive to Stuttgart everyday to work.

I have hunted and fished since I was old enough to hold a bb gun/fishing pole. I usually fish Old River or Bearskin Lake inScott. Sometimes I venture out and go to Clear Lake in Englad, White River Refuge lakes, Cash River, Lake Conway, Ark River, among other places. I am not a good crappie fisherman, but I stumble onto a mess every now and again.

I LOVE the St Louis Cardinals, to me there is no other baseball team (or any team for that matter).

I am a member of Pulaski Heights UMC, have a pretty good sized garden, 6 chickens, a boy I call Catfish, have diabetes (juvenile), my dad means the world to me, so does my mom, I am going to run the LR Half Marathon this year (good Lord willing), and I sometimes tie my own crappie jigs.

You got a seat in my boat when the time comes.
My name is Don. I am 57. Quit smoking about 20 years ago. Now I am short of breath, too fat, diabetic, and have high blood pressure. If I live to be 90, I am going light up again.
I was born and raised around Houston Tx. I have lived in New Orleans, Pittsburgh PA, spent some time in Indonesia, and am proud to now call Arkansas home. After my sister died last year, my parents moved to Arkansas to be near me. Good thing they did. Mrs DP and I gained full custody of a couple of Gkids about the same time. My son was really screwing up and my parents have got him pointed the right direction.
My weekends are busy doing PawPa stuff. Mrs DP and I like to sing at different churches on Sunday's. We also hold services at Elmcroft Assisted living every other Sunday.
Can't wait to retire; or, at least change careers so I can sneak of to lake X during the week.

OK, I’ll give it a shot since I never “officially” introduced myself.

My handle on here is gzrglide, short for geezer glide, that is what my kids have always called my Harley’s. However, my name is Brent, am 53 and will be 54 in January. I grew up in Trumann, RCC and I were in the same class and attended the same church growing up. After graduating in 78, enlisted in the Navy and spent 25 years, retiring as a Lt. Cdr. In ’81, married my high school sweet heart and we will have our 33rd anniversary in January. We have two kids, son is 29 and daughter is 27, two grand daughters, one is four and the other is two. We have lived in Pocatello Idaho, Summerville South Carolina, Orlando (technically Belle Isle) Florida, and Belle Vernon, PA. Moved back to Arkansas in 2003 when I retired from the Navy. Since then we have lived in Valley View and I am working at Frito Lay here in Jonesboro as Facilities Manager. Eligible to retire from Frito when I turn 55, and trying to decide if I stick with this or start a third career. Been crappie fishing since ’68, haven’t hunted since High School. In South Carolina and Florida also did some Bass fishing and guiding for Bass part time. My current boat is an Alumacraft MV Crappie Magnum (17 ft stick steer) with a 40 horse Evinrude. Since this boat is about 15 years old now, trying to decide what I want next, torn between a stick steer War Eagle or a hyper lift xpress. Since I like the river and fishing swamps so much will probably stick with the War Eagle as it is a bit narrow and the stick steer is the best thing since sliced bread for fishing by myself.

My wife decided this year that we were going to start camping and bought a new Jayco Feather lite camper, so if we can get the time off, we may see everyone at Dardanelle in April.

Don’t think I missed anything, if I did, just ask…

Chased those nasty green trout and devote tourney fisherman for 24 years but it got too easy. Decided to chase some crappie last year and actually have done very well. Hunt Fish and coach girls ... Hi, fellas. I'm Mic, 55, and have lived in Jonesboro all my life. Have three grown kids and a chocolate lab that answers to Wilson. Own a shop and never done anything but mechanic work.

Hunting ducks and geese are my passion, but fish when life permits. Bought a small jon boat from a friend this past summer and hope to find a little more time for it. Have been having quite a bit o' fun reworking it and the trailer. Love to draw, build things...just most anything that keeps the mind and hands busy. Hope to meet some of you on the water one day!

I'm only couple months away from being 38 years old. I work for a company out of town in Cushing, OK (Compliance Advantage, 3rd party safety company). I'm a safety inspector working in Southern KS at the moment but we work a 14 days on and 7 off schedule so that's great for woods and water time. I'm married with 2 small dogs that we consider our furry kids. I too went to SAU back in the late 90's. Me and my wife are still living in our 5th wheel cause we can't figure out where we wanna live with me working off and her working in Idabel, OK. She can't seen to part with her folks and I want us to move a bit further away, but that's our fight. We both are ready for a house so I'm sure that's not too far down the road, hopefully near a lake that has starving crappie's, lol.

Some great stories here so I thought I would throw mine in, turned 60 in July. I was born and raised in south east AR (Lake Village). My father was a worker and didn’t have any hobbies except air planes, that is another story in itself. All my friends, cousins fished and hunted so I learn mostly from them. I fished Lake Chicot back when it was a great fishing lake, Mississippi River, bayous and where ever there was water. Family started a construction company in east Texas so I lived there awhile and ran heavy equipment. Moved back to Lake Village after a few years and ran a farm, then farm for myself for several years, ran heavy equipment and engineer on tow boat in off season. Got a divorce lost most of the farm and did a “Walk About” a few years in the Stamps, AR worked in oil field and drove over road, Phoenix, AZ dry termite exterminator and Frisco, CA worked at cotton gin.
Back to Arkansas and a friend talked me in to going back to college, while working part time building the pumping station on Lake Chicot. Three years later had a computer science degree and went to work for AR highway engineer office as an engineer helper.
A year later move to Little Rock highway dept. main office as computer personnel, Little Rock School District and a non-profit organization working with children. I now work for Easter Seals of Arkansas the best place a person could work.
Last year I decided to get back to my roots so I am fishing and hunting again. My great wife (20+ years) let me buy my dream boat and I have been using it a lot. I fish mostly on the AR River at Tar Camp. We luck up and catch some fish every now and then, but it has been great just being there doing it. As I get older the smaller things have more meaning to me, I guess age does that to all of us. Sorry for the life history.
    Tight lines,
    Julius
