The one in the right hand is 2.06 lbs and the one in the left hand dwarfs him like Shaquille o Neal on a high school court!

How long were those two fish? Do you still have the head of the big one? I would like the age for my data set. As a general reminder to anyone who reads this, if you catch a crappie of his caliber, take an accurate measurement of length and weight and save its head if you fillet it. Your local fisheries biologist would be more than willing to tell you its age. If they do not have the time or are not interested, get it to me and I will age it. Thanks.

It is hard to say, but I would guess that it was at least 4.5 years old. We do not see very many fish this size in our samples. This is why I would like to have the otoliths of this fish. It would help us answer this type of question.
