    Default Buffalo River

    Morning neighbors!

Some friends and I will be paddling/camping on the Buffalo River soon and was wondering about the fishing. Just to put this out there, I really suck at fishing so I could use any tidbit of info I can get. So, is it possible to catch any Crappie in the Buffalo? Do they have any? The plan is to do about 30 miles in several days so the area will vary from day to day.

Just looking to have some fun on the river for a few days.

    Thanks in advance,

    Daily fishin

The Buffalo River is my favorite place in Arkansas. Unfortunatley you will not find any crappie there. However, you will have a chance to catch first class smallmouth bass. I recommend using a tube jig called a "getzit" or another crayfish pattern. Dark brown and greens with orage or red fleck work the best for me. This time of year concentrate on the riffles and the transition areas right beneath the riffles.

Here is the biggest one I have ever seen caught in the river. My wife caught it several years ago on our first anniversary. It was 21.5 inches long. I estimated it to be 4.5 - 5 pounds. We let it go. Have fun! I wish I were going to be there soon.

Nice Catch! If you don't mind me saying, both of them... I wish you many more years! My wife and I just celebrated 23! But she doesn't fish though. Some of us can't have everything.

Thanks for the info, I'll let you know what we do.

D10 is right on with that Gitzit. I like Pumpkinseed. Last time I was there we easily caught 100 brownies. Nothing quite like that one his wife is holding but we had a few good keepers. Have fun!

He forgot to tell you, better read up on the regs for blue ribbon Smallmouth streams before fishing if you want to keep any. Good luck.

Buffalo River (Ozark Zone Blue Ribbon Stream)
Smallmouth bass daily limit is two and each must be at least 14 inches long to keep. From confluence with Clabber
Creek downstream to the confluence with the White River, smallmouth bass daily limit is 1 and must be at least
18 inches or longer to keep. Outboard motors may not be used on the Buffalo River upstream from Erbie Ford, nor
larger than 10 horsepower from Erbie to the White River.

I suggest the medium size Rebel Crawfish crank bait. It requires no skill to use it. Just throw and retrieve, try two colors, one with brown on it and one with red in the pattern. Hope you have a great trip.

There are no crappie in the Buffalo River.

There are no crappie in the Arkansas River, either.
There are no crappie in Greers Ferry Lake.
There are no crappie in Nimrod.
There are no crappie in Harris Brake Lake.
There are no crappie in Lake Brewer.

And that's the story of my spring, and you're welcome.

You forgot Dardanelle. Definitely no Crappie in there.

    Man
Do not let your wife fish on the buffalo.
    It will cost you money

I had got mine a new pole for our anniversary a few years ago.
She had also got a new pair of glasses.

While we were canoeing, she would fish.
She was standing out in the river and a fly / bug was buzzing her.
She swatted the fly and knocked her glasses half off and while trying to get her glasses, dropped her new pole.

She let go of a $400 pair of glasses to grab her $50 pole to keep it out of the water.
We never found the glasses. But she was still fishing
