looks like a hognose snake or spreading adder. Lots are killed because they look similar to a copperhead. Also they feign aggression if you get close, striking repeatedly and generally acting mean. Keep bothering him and he will turn over and play dead. When they are playing dead you can turn them right side up and they will slowly turn their belly up and play dead again. They swim eally high up on the water and can make you think a cobra is on the loose by spreading their heads. A mistake one made one day about 50 years ago while I was fishing on a culvert for crawdads or whatever. He came swimming through the culvert all fanned out and a 12 year old boy from Greenfield didn't know what to think other than here's a good sized rock to chunk and another hognose had headed for snake heaven. Now all this relies on the theory that it is a hognose. That delta shaped head just oozes pit viper shape. If it's a copperhead all bets are off.
