Default Little Maumelle July 5, 2009 Report

Well, I didn't get skunked but I may as well have. I caught two catfish and one small large mouth bass. Couldn't find a bream or a crappie to save my life.

I fished slip floats and trolled with Ship's rig at all depths from the mouth of the river near the boat ramp by I-430 to the far side of River Valley Marina.

By the way, for those that fish that area, the bait shop is under new management. I stopped by on the off chance they were open and had ice (I forgot to get some this morning when I ran to Hatchet Jacks). They did. Just pull up to the boat ramp and tie off to the end of the covered dock. Nice folks. I hope they do well. Reasonable prices.

If anyone is catching crappie in that area, please let us know how you're doing it and where... If you don't want to spill the beans in public, PM me. I can keep a secret. I'm about to give up on that part of the Little Maumelle and move back to the upper parts... I can jerk a perch from just about any tree back there, but this end is a mystery to me.

We don't get many reports about the LMr sense CEB moved off. It does get plenty of activity though. I always look at the ramp from the bridge every Sunday when I am coming back across from church. It is always full. I guess it is just too handy for me to fish on. I live off of Hinson.

I have not heard any reports on it. I used to fish it all the time. It has gotten to where the water is always either up or down. It is never steady. I went across the upper bridge yesterday and it is VERY LOW in the upper parts.

    Fishtaco,

I can't believe you didn't go to the cypress shade above the bridge. When I lived in
the area, I did well up there. Plus, it's cool and serene.

You mean on past Burnett Landing? Past the Marina and Pinnacle Valley Rd. bridge? That is where I usually fish, but I noticed that several folks here (grumpy for one) seemed to prefer the mouth of the Little Maumelle to the marina area. I figured I've give it a try a few times and see what comes of it.

There is lots of habitat there on the fish finder, and being rather close to the two main channels of the converging rivers (Arkansas and Little Maumelle) I'd figure that would be some prime area for crappie to hang out and spend the summer. In fact, I'm sure it has to be. I just didn't find the party I guess.

It is handy. I'm just off Cantrel and its about 5 minutes to the ramp from the house. I normally put in at Burnett Landing and head up river from there There are several fair spots up that direction, and yes, there is a fair amount of fishing pressure, but mostly for bass. I can usually jerk a perch from just about any tree in the water up there, but here lately, I can't find anything but baby hoggs and Mr. Whiskers. Oh well. Good thing I like catfish too.

I fish the LMR regularly during the winter and do consistently well on the lower end. I'm to a point I don't even try in the summer. Get tired of being blasted out of the water monster wakes.

Yup, those folks with the go boats do like to zoom up and down that part of the river. But many of them are polite enough to slow down and not drown the folks along the way, but some aren't.

I also once float tubed LMR from the bridge all the way to the mout and BACK. It was a long day but we had a great time.

If you fish at the mouth much, be sure to check out the island that comes and goes just out into the Arkansas. It seems to always hold fish on the downstream side.

I haven't been to LMR since the last night stalk with CEB, Gooch and all the guys. They put me and Jack in a boat together because we were to two oldest. Jack just nosed that boat up into a big slip in the marina across froma big house boat, and we hammered them. Got one over 15 inches. The other guys said they could hear me and Jack laughting all whe way down the river. Good times boys, good times. Tight lines.
