That's NOT good news. I dont know exactly what it is other than part of the electrical system. It keeps your plugs from firing. t'll cost ya about the same as a power pac though.
My outboard mechanic says that I need a new "stador" for my 1999 Yamaha 115hp. What is a "stador"?
Thanks,
CC

Health nuts are going to feel stupid someday, lying in hospitals dying of nothing.
Stator. It provides electrical power to charge the battery and run the motor. Should be about $300.

On Omc's it was located under the fly wheel and if it's bad it messes up the timing and motor won't run well at all. Omc used to have a fair amount of problems in the early ninties with them.
It is located under the flywheel. It has brushes on it that create ignition spark and charges the battery.
If you meant Stator, Well it is part of your Starter. Go to http://www.yamaha-motor.com put in your make and model and you will see under starter that the stator is part number 6N7-81810-00-00
STATOR ASSY
There is also a Diagram to see where it is on the Starter
It didnt give a price so I hope this helps a little

I HAVE BEEN A YAMAHA DEALER FOR YEARS, AND I HAVE NEVER KNOWN A STATOR TO GO BAD ON A YAMAHA. MERCURY, YES BUT NOT YAMAHA. IN THE LATE 90'S I REPLACED 125 STATORS ON MERCURYS. YOU MAY NEED A SECOND OPINION. I AM NOT DOWN ON MERCURY ENGINES; I OWN A 150EFI MERC ON A TRITON 196TA!

It is under the flywheel. It is called an ignition stator. Provides fire to the plugs & charges the battery like a magnito.
