    Default Stator

I HAVE BEEN A YAMAHA DEALER FOR YEARS, AND I HAVE NEVER KNOWN A STATOR TO GO BAD ON A YAMAHA. MERCURY, YES BUT NOT YAMAHA. IN THE LATE 90'S I REPLACED 125 STATORS ON MERCURYS. YOU MAY NEED A SECOND OPINION. I AM NOT DOWN ON MERCURY ENGINES; I OWN A 150EFI MERC ON A TRITON 196TA!

    Monk,
He has already ordered the part and I think it came in today. I guess it is too late for second opinions. I do remember the dealer telling me that he thought it was the "brain" at first but he contacted Yamaha and they told him to be very careful about replacing the "brain". They very rarely go bad. The dealer then checked the stator and found a short. I know very little about outboards or any type of motors. I will let you know how it works out. Thanks for your comments. I just hope you are wrong this time.

I have replaced the CDI Ignition box 3 times on my 1995 C115 Yamaha...when its cold it was only firing on 2 cylinders. In the warmer weather it never gave any troubles. Found out they were having what they called "Thermal Cycling problems" where the inside of that unit would heat up and cool down and it would cause it to break connections when it was cold. The local dealer here tried to sell me a stator ($450) to fix my problem when that wasn't the cause..
