All this talk about 500 size reels and I upped and ordered a Shimano Nasci 500FC .
    The 500 Nasci I already own is a 500fb . It’ll be interesting to compare them .
The FB has gotten better with use . Maybe the new ones need a little break-in to lighten up .
My newest Sahara 500 is getting better also .

Congrats, Gillchaser! 3 new features alone that I know will be worth the upgrade comparing to your old FB (from specs sheet off course): Hagane gear, silent drive, and core-protect. I was seriously considering it since Digitaka has the best price with free shipping. Let us know how it’s like once you got in your hand, Sir!

I received my little Nasci 500FC this morning. It is small , looks a little smaller than my other Shimano 500 reels . May be the color .
Just like the other recent Shimano 500 reels I’ve purchased, this one is smooth winding but for now it’s not a low inertia winding reel out of the box .
After applying a few drop of Lucas reel oil on the spool shaft , and siting and winding , it seems to be loosening up .
Could be like my Nasci FB 500 and new Sahara 500 , it going to need a little breaking in .
Rain outside right now and most of the day .
There’s supposed to be a break between 3-4pm , maybe I can slip off to the town pond , catch a couple and take some pics .

The soare xr 500 spg weighs 135 grams which makes it the lightest JDM reel, however, the handle is a bit short and when cranking fast, it tends to catch a bit. The vanford 500 weighs at 140 grams but the handle is longer and does not catch. The 500 ci4 series does not have the mag rotor, hagane gears, or the body protector but the benefits if the UL reel outweighs those xtras and I haven't noticed a difference.

Are the differences you are referring to in the Soare? In a strange turn, as I am the one that started this thread, I ended up getting a Vanford 1000, go figure lol.

I am about to begin a 5' UL build that will need a 500 reel though, and the Soare would be a good fit except for they can't seem to be found.

Thanks for that. I forget about them, Digitaka is kind of my "go to" place.
