The 6’10” Abu Garcia is a great rod for crappie and gills. I personally prefer it for crappie and it is the rod I use when I’m throwing a jig for crappie. Hope that helps!

I pulled the trigger on it last night along with an abu MGX theta S. It’ll be a significant step up from anything I’ve fished with especially paired with some esterline. Bit of a learning curve expected but I’ll be ready to rock and roll by time it really warms up around here. Thanks all for the input. Lots of you walked so some of us could run.

MGX Theta is a great reel. Absolutely right about “Lots of you walked so some of us could run.”

One thing which helped me with managing Ester was to put the finger on the spool right before the jig hits the water. Prevents additional line jumping off the spool.

    Good luck!

I wish they made the twitch master in 2lb but no such luck.

Yeah I’d be happy to buy some 2lb twitch myself but I sure like the 3lb for hang ups. I can get a lot more jigs back with 3lb varivas than I ever could with Sunline and other brands.
