Thread: JDM rods relating to Panfish

The Tict Ice Cube is unlike any JDM rod I own....and I own far too many. It is a Mebaru rod and not Ajing....Ajing rods are pretty stiff compared to our UL rods. The Tict is...as I mentioned is a Mebaru rod. But it is unlike any other Mebaru rod in the fact it has an upper section that is solid graphite. Hard to compare it to the River Runner but it is not a stiff rod. I know I don't miss anything with this Tict Ice Cube. It is an expensive rod...and I am not made of money......but if it breaks tomorrow I will instantly order another one from Japan. Tict is a major player in the Ajing and Mebaru line of rods in Japan.....very well made. You really can't compare any high end JDM UL rod to anything you get here in the states....or for that matter their low and medium end are much different than what we have.

I have bought a couple of JDM rods and hope to use them this spring fishing for bream. One concern I have is the tips do not appear to be large enough to handle a slip cork knot. Do all of the UL rods have such tiny guides towards the tip?

Mine do.

A JDM rod might not be best for what you're trying to do.

Some are smaller than others...but yes all the rods I own have small tip tops. Most are 3.5mm...a few are 4mm.....and the newer ones have 3mm. I can see where they might not handle a slip float knot.

Never owned any Daiwa rods with the AGS guides...one of the reasons those rods are very expensive. I did own a couple of MX ajing models years ago with the titanium guide frames. They were good rods but extremely rigid....the most rigid ajing rod I have come across.

Thanks for the info. I was tempted, mainly by the discount, but I managed not to buy one. I don't need another JDM rod, because my Tict IC RP and Yamaga BC nano pretty much cover all the bases for me: trout (GA), crappie, and panfish.

Need some advice from dock shooters on here. Alphahawk has sent me down the JDM road and while he's a guru on JDM he is not a dock shooter. I currently have the majorcraft triple cross 6'8" tubular ( I think ) and the ice cube. The triple cross is currently my all time favorite for dock shooting and the ice cube is my favorite casting rod. Hoping some of you can give me some advice on dock shooting rods. Even though the ice cube is more sensitive it's not a great dock shooting as it's hard to get the low trajectory for a great shooting rod. Feedback appreciated and willing to pay for a rod that makes me say wow. Scott

i shoot docks i lot, i have seven different jdms of different lengths and configurations(tict, lunakia, major craft area trout and aging, and blue current. i would not recommend any of the ones i own for dock shooting. the bending curve on these are just not designed for that. agings are stiff and fast enough but, like alphahawk said, im afraid the tip would eventually break. i dont consider dock shooting a finesse tactic its more power fishing IMHO. by far the best rods i have found for that is a denali 7ft dock rod. grizzly gig has em or you can order straight from denali. there also right around 40 bucks. i do recomend a good reel. im partial to diawa and shimano. i have two that are mated to shimano 1000 stradics and with 6lbs test i can shoot a 1/32 jig about 60ft and put it in a coffee can 8 out of 10 times.
