    Default Lake Jordan

I know there's crappie in Lake Jordan because I caught one three days ago. I understand it's not peak time for fishin Jordan; but, crappie did not get out of the lake and go south for the winter. I've fished deep, I've fished near creeks, used minners and jigs. Been fishin around Blackwells and Weoka Creek mostly. Going nuts. Any ideas?

I am not sure where this lake is located.Assuming it is in Al.Couple of questions that I would ask.Have you fished this lake during spring? If so I would start in feeder creeks near spawning areas, closer to the main lake.Work your way towards spawning areas.Hit any visible structure in or near the creek channel.Any coves that open up near spawning areas that have warmer water.Concentrate on the northern banks of the coves. It has been my experience that some fish will start moving earlier than others. They (I think) don't move up all at once.I believe that they sorta move kinda like 2 steps forward and 1 step back until the water temp reaches a comfort level that they will tolerate.Another thing that comes to mind is the availability of clear water. We have had some high water and all of the fish that I have caught were in clearer water.Clearer being relative to normal clarity. One other thing that comes to mind is that they have seemed to bite more in the middle of the day.Good Luck and hope maybe you can get some worth from this.Next best thing to fishing is talking fishing!!!

Gansett, you are not going nuts...I fished Jorden last Friday from 900am until dusk, no crappie caught. One 6 lb stripper caught at the mouth of lake Jorden Marina on med crappie minnow. Sounds like you have everything covered..even the locations. I chalked up the poor bite due to the recent artic front. I fish from a Fisher 20" toon, give me a holler. Lake Mitchell Hatchet creek is supposed to have good crappie fishing also. I've done better on Mitchell than Jordan. I live in Wetumka, so it is hard to drive by Jordan to fish Mitchell.

    Brain,
Thanks for the report, it does make me feel better. In fact, I may have seen you around Blackwell Bridge fishin on the east side of the bridge on the south edge of the channel. I live in Millbrook and Jordan is real close by. I fish the Alabama River a lot, and prefer it; however, when it is running wide open I'm looking for an alternate place to fish. It may very well be due to the artic front--I hope so. I am going to PM you.
RIVERMAN hit the nail square on the head when he said talking fishing is the next best thing to fishing. Can't tell you how much my fishing buddy, Harold, and I talk about it. We are like two six-year-olds and I'm 67. Right now I can't wait until tomorrow when I see him and show him Riverman's comments. As many times as we've fished, neither one of us sleeps well the night before a trip. Just get too excited. It's insane, but Lord it is fun.
