Default Logan 11/18/07 - 44 in the cooler

Well, George and I hadn't been fishing for a couple of weeks, so we were both ready. Our plan had been to go out Friday night, but seeing how cold it was supposed to get (low 30's) we moved it to Sunday night and it was much better (upper 40's).

We went out of Rabbit Branch and the water is really low there (1-2 feet). So be careful when entering and leaving that area and be ready to raise your motor or you may hit bottom (I did when approaching the launch on returning). Also, we found out that the marina there is under new ownership. They were renovating the inside of the store when we tried to pay a launch fee. But they just waived us on and said they would get us next time.

We fished a couple of places around Coosa Island but only caught a couple in an hour and a half, and both were throw-backs. I could see a few fish on the finder, but mostly what we saw were clouds of shad. Just couldn't get the crappie to bite.

So we loaded up again and ran across the river to Clear Creek. That place sure is reliable for catching fish just about any time of year. Again, there were plenty of shad circulating through the area and got plenty of targets indicating larger fish. Our catches were nothing really spectacular but it was pretty steady getting bites for the next 2-3 hours. None of them were really big, but plenty of 10-12 inchers that will eat just fine.

The surface temp was 60 and the fish were caught from 16' to the 24' bottom and those fish were cold!!! About half the strikes were pretty light, but all the fish put up a good strong fight once hooked, which surprised me with how cold they felt. The sky was overcast with a prediction of rain. The wind was up a little bit at Coosa Island but was just about gone up in Clear Creek. They were not pulling water while we were there. And we only saw 2 other boats on the lake, and they weren't fishing.

Sorry, no pictures. Just forgot to take the camera again.

Good to hear you're still catching them.
