Logan Monday pm
The lake is still low and it's still hot, but the fish are there. My wife had the ladies over for Bunko at our house Monday night, so I decided to head to the lake. George wasn't able to go so I made the trip by myself. Looking at the boat as I pulled it out of the garage I noticed it was tilted to one side. One tire was about flat. So I pulled it off and put on the spare. In doing so I noticed quite a bit of grease on the hub and the wheel rim and was worried that maybe I had slung out a lot of grease. After digging through the garage I found the grease gun and regreased both hubs. Not a great start, but not too bad.
Got to Coosa Island and the water was so low I just about couldn't launch. The truck more than halfway in the water when the boat finally began to float a little. I couldn't even get out of the truck without getting wet. I walked out the trailer tongue and could just barely budge the boat. So I jumped in and tried to start the engine. Nothing!!! Pulled the cowling off the motor to check the fuses; they were all okay. Finally found one of the wing nuts on the starter battery had worked loose. Tightened it and was able to start er up and back the boat off the trailer.
Went across the river to one of our big fish spots and anchored. My green florescent light died on me. One of my new $13 screw in florescents wouldn't work either. And I managed to spill half a bucket of minnows on my foot.
Last week at this spot we anchored and only caught 3, but they were nice ones. I decided this trip to try slow drifting around the area. I ended up with 7 nice ones in about 2.5 hours. Biggest was 14". Pretty slow to me, but I enjoyed it anyway. There was a little breeze and the air had cooled down some. The water was down to 88 degrees. Not cool but last week it was 91.
Changed a flat tire, greased the wheels, shallow launch, 2 bad lights, minnows in my shoe, slow fishing. Boy, I can't wait to go again.
