    Default Guntersville Dam Tail Race

Had not been on the water in a while and one of my favorite fishing buddies, my youngest daughter, wanted to go down and fish below the dam from the bank. The stripe were prolific! Could not find any crappie, but the stripes kept her interested and amused, you got bit every cast. Now that she is gone to college, I don't get to fish with her as much as we did before she headed out to school. I did manage one nice LGM Bass. Those are always fun in current on 4lb test crappie gear! Saw a fair number of boats fishing the lock wall, assume they were after Jacks. Have heard of a few jacks being caught so far this winter.

Glad you got out with your daughter Bob. If you know how to fish below the dams they can really be good in the early spring.

Nice to get the family out. Hope she had fun. Your right about the light gear, I love 2pound. Hopefully when she gets the chance, you 'll be back at it again.

Nothing better than continuing to make family memories. Great job, Bob!

The stripe have been numerous the last year or so below Gville dam. Even in this low water situation from the drought this winter they have remained consistent. We were hoping on a really good Sauger run year this year but due to the lack of water flow and no gates being open its been a big disappointment. They have been slow at best and mostly are hit and miss plus they have to be 15 inches now so even a 14 inch one goes back. They have caught a few off the wall up in the corner on days they run the turbines more than 20000cfs.

I love that sauger fishing. Did it a lot up on the Ohio river when I lived in ky. Keep us posted on the bite , I'd like to make a trip up there and try to round some up.

Yep, a jack is a sauger around here. Took me awhile to get used to it when I first moved here. Having grown up in the NW those where immature male salmon returning early, but not the case here.
