Default No Joy on 1st or 2nd Creek on Wheeler

Bass lady and I fished 2nd Creek on Wheeler, Saturday. Nothing. Do not feel bad, as no one else was catching anything. Surface water temp warmed to upper 50's. Water level was up from Friday.

Sunday we fished 2nd Creek, then 1st Creek and back to 2nd, later. Water level was up another foot over Saturday. Guess this is what they call bringing Wheeler up to "Spring Pool" level. Water temps in coves and bays did get into the low 60's.

Boss Lady (Dale) caught a drum and we missed on two hybrids. That was it.

Wind both days was a bit intersting as was the flotsam-jetsam. It was an obstacle course.

But better days will come. Power of positive thinking, ya know.

    Karl and Dale,

It was one of those weekends. I fished the inner railroad bay west of Hwy 31 in Decatur Saturday and Sunday. I don't spider rig. Saturday the wind was fairly rough and I caught three slabs for the entire day. Granted they were nice fat females and very tasty for a Saturday dinner, but only 3 for 8 hours of fishing was a downer. I went back Sunday for a half day and got skunked. Fish finder shows they're there. There all over the place in fact. The bay is loaded with them. For Saturday and Sunday, the only people I saw catching anything were the spider riggers, and they didn't go home with limits.

One fellow fisherman told me that the rising water levels had lowered the water temps and that was why they weren't biting. It sounds rational to me. My buddy fished Arrowhead and down the channel to the river. He caught nothing and his dad caught two -- for a whole day of fishing on Saturday.

Hope springs eternal, so I'm sharpening my hooks and changing my reel line in anticipation of this weekend. Keep your fingers crossed.

I've also tried 1st and 2nd Creek. No luck in the past week. A good note is that I saw a guy fishing the covered boat slips and he had 2 of the biggest black crappie I've seen. They were every bit 18 inches. SLABS!!!!!!!!!!!!! They were schooling under the slips in 20 to 25 ft. of water and were biting in 10 to 12 ft. I went back the next day and didn't even get a bite there. The warm weather has got to get them moving up.

Talked with a gent today who retired from TVA. He said to expect the water to continue to rise until 15th of April. That is their projected date for having the water level up to their target level.

Those were monsters. Will probably wait until next weekend to go back out. Winds nasty again today and forecasted for same on Tuesday. Bumpers coming mid-week.
