I fished Beaverdam Creek from 8AM till around 1:30PM today. It was very windy and cold, cold, cold! Water temp was 38 degrees and had drop a foot since last week. The wind was really bad, steady from the Northwest at about 15MPH to 20MPH. I was about to give up and call it a day when I finally found some fish. The Crappie were scattered in about 24 to 30 inches of water and chasing shad. Best bait was a black and white Bobby Garland on a 1/16oz jig head. I was spider rigging 6 rods. I ended up catching 73 and kept half a limit. I also threw back a dozen bass including a 6 ½ pounder. The Crappie and bass were both hitting shad that were being pushed into the area by the wind. I would have stayed longer but couldn’t feel my hands any more!
One more thing, every Crappie was 13 or 14 inches, I’m not sure I’ve every caught 2 pounders all day before! They always seem to bite when the conditions are at there worst!
Photo's tomorrow when I clean them.
I caught about 40 nice ones this morning in about 2 hours. I had to put one rod up with the capps and coleman spider rig se up on it because I already had a limit and it was rediculous how they would hit that one so fast. I did not want to waste minnows since I had already caught a limit. I threw some back and kept some for a friend and I was done catching them by 7 AM. I was not cold but deicided I had caught enough and headed home.
you must have been in the deepest spot in the creek? i might go tomorrow. holla at me.
congrats on the fish and braving the weather. bbbrrrrrrrrr,......
GO BIG ORANGE !
I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.
