    Default Dothan area fishing.

I will be down from MN visiting my parents for the weekend. Any good local spots for catching some crappie or brim?

Just registered, I wish I had registered sooner! Everyone seems to go to Eufaula/George around here. Is that where you went? I also hear that Lake Tholocco at Ft. Rucker has some good crappie for a small lake.

I'm in Dothan. I fish Eufaula, Andrews, and Seminole. I use to fish Eufaula the most because it has the best ramps and the most options for habitat. Eufaula produced fairly good slabs until the corp begun fixing it in 2010. I haven't been there for over a year now after they lowered the lake level and killed most of the vegetation. I must add that this is reported not observed. Seminole is an outstanding fish lake but my boat is just to big to deal with the trees and stumps. I already had over $2000 in repairs from wondering out of those narrow pass-ways. Lake George W Andrews (between Eufaula and Columbia) is closest to Dothan. I can be in the water in 45 minutes. Lake Andrews is hard to produce crappie. They are there. You just have to be at the right place at the right time with the right water conditions. South of the Andrews Dam at Columbia is better fishing than Lake Andrews, to me. But again, the water conditions need to be right. Look also at Ocheesee Pond near Grand Ridge, FL. It's about an hour out of Dothan. Once you see it you'll be hooked. Ocheesee is a fisherman's paradise. A 12'/16' narrow aluminum boat (And a GPS) is a must in that lake. Hey, I'm an olding fart with disabilities that preclude me from fishing alone much anymore. If you're still in the area and want to hook up. PM me and we'll try to go do something. David

Thanks for the advice David. I have a 20' Ranger myself so I'm a little leery of the stumps on Seminole. I tell you though, there's an area north of the main lake on the Chatahoochee branch, at Buena Vista and Parramore Landings, where the crappie look like they will spawn and I've been dying to try them out. I will check out Ocheesee Pond. Also I hear Deerpoint Lake around Southport, FL has some good fishing, but that's a pretty good haul and they're drawing the lake down now. Charles
