    Default Night fishing

me and a buddy from work went to try and catch some of those big ol slab slabs last night and same results as the last 7 trips ( nothin much at all). We found what we thought was a good spot, we found a couple of brush piles and caught 4 just before dark and decided that it looked like it was a good spot. We anchored down in @ 21 ft put the submersible green light to about 8 to 10 ft. We sat there for 3 1/2 hrs the screen on depth finder was black tons of fish and baitfish 1 little ol crappie. Can any one tell me what our missin ingrediant was, we just dont understand what were doin wrong (any suggestions would be greatly appreciated).

The only thing I do different is put my light just under the surface instead of letting it down like you are doing. Of course I havent night fished in a few years but thats the way we used to do it.

2' to 4' is plenty of depth, fish the outer edges of the circle of light in the darker waters, and also below the light in the darker waters.
Game fish are attack fish and like to dart into the light and grab their meal.
Also if 45 minutes to 1 hour no results move to another spot not just 15 feet either.
Try chumming the waters to get the minnows excited, thereby attacking the game fish.

What lake were you fishing? I've had pretty much the same kind of luck in Wheeler and Guntersville. I don't know where they hang out on summer nights. We always see tons of fish and bait fish on the finder but never catch much of anything.

We mainly fish Wheeler lake in decatur al or guntersville lake. The other night we went down to spring creek toward the dam. I have done fairly well at guntersville around the bridges but most of the ones we do good around has some light around them. I spend most of my time on wheeler because its closer to the house. I guess we really need to start paying closer attn. to the moon phase but, it still looks to me like something would be bittin?

Did you have any current ? If TVA is not moving water the bite will be off. Were you fishing right behind a low pressure system ? The fish may be in the creek but they will be closer to river channel.

Default The key latley for me has been bait

just last Wed I had 16 fish over 21 lbs. The next night same conditions in the same spot caught 6 the same size and about 30 8 to 9 inchins long. The only difference was the bait. On Wed I had some nice 3in shinners, the following night all I could get was little 2 in toughies. The little fish eat them up the six big fish I caught were on the biggest minnows in the bucket. That's what I think anyway.....
