    Yeah, water snake. It doesn't have the heart shaped head of the poisonous snakes like copperhead, moccasin, or rattle snake. The water snakes are fairly harmless except for scaring people to death and making them do things out of panic.:D... you could get a nasty infection if it bit you though.

    Used to catch and study snakes when I was a kid, kept a few for pets too.

    (blush) but I have been wrong before. You cannot get a great look at the head in these pics, but the color pattern is leading me to copperhead.

    look up a common water snake, it looks just like one to me. I agree with GCD, I think its a watersnake

    its called a banded water snake, they are colored like a copper head so you'll think they are poisonous and leave them alone,
