live in North Alabama very near the Tenn line(less than 15 min drive). Would I require a expensive non resident fishing license to go fish in Tenn?

Yes you have to buy non residence Tennessee license.
Have you checked on a three or seven day license Florida have them which is what I buy when I go to Lake Talquin.
50 bucks non residence annual. Unless you fish for trout and if you fish for trout its 99 bucks 20.50 for a 3 day non trout 40 bucks 3 day all species their licensee run March 1st - end of February
