I helped on a few. They used to cut the skin into strips and pull it off with pliers.
Never done one. Never even shot at one. But my curiosity is up. Please post a few pics of the cleaning/skinning process. Maybe after it is gutted. If it's not too gross, I will leave it up for a while, unless we get some complaints. I'll take the blame. Thanks, "D"

We hang them up from the hindquarters and skin em just like a deer , it is a super greasy event unless it super cold, we dress them backwards, from the chest up to the sternum, then down from the buttocks. It is about the same as a deer except the hide is lots thicker and really slippery.
Young ones skin way easier than old ones , just saying
sum kawl me tha outlaw ketchn whales"D" thanked you for this post
Hang 'em like a deer and skin them. Keep a sharpening stick handy and touch the blade up from time to time.
Make a cut around each hock and start peeling the hide back, cut, pull, cut, pull, etc.. Once you get the hide from around the hindquarters and past the tail
it gets easier to get the hide off. Cut around the front legs just above the hoofs, I then cut off the hoofs to make skinning the shoulders easier, split
the hide to the brisket and peel on down to the head. Cut off head and quarter up, start with the shoulders, then back-straps/tenderloins, ribs, cut spine
off at hindquarters, split the hindquarters (I use a sawzall) cut off hoofs and you are done.
Lat one I skint a week ago.
Same as a deer. The 0nly hogs that are more difficult are boars with a thick shield.. those I skin down to shield and cut strips down towards head. It's not to difficult and I always have at least 5 knives in my truck. The worst hog I delt with was a lady friends stud boar..it weighed about 700lbs I think.. she wanted the meat for dog food.. that thing dulled my knives and was a nightmare to skin...
Hanging by his back legs I use a wyoming knife to make the cut from the leg all the way down to the throat in one quick motion. Another cut inside the other leg to the groin area where it meets the first cut. Then I make another cut on top of it's back from his tail all the way to his throat. Then I use these (see picture) and can generally pull the hide down like you would skin a deer. Then just skin like you would a deer. These skinning pliers makes skinning WAY easier on a hog AND a deer...
For those that havent cleaned a hog it aint as bad as you'd think. Hair aint nearly as bad getting on the meat as it is with deer even with the extra cutting of the hide.
Health nuts are going to feel stupid someday, lying in hospitals dying of nothing.MCG1 LIKED above post
Any certain brand name for those skinning pliers? Thanks for the info.
Thanks. Won't be skinning hogs but might come in handy for cold weather deer skinning.
