Certainly would not hurt. A run in a fresh water lake doesn't hurt either
I have a 40 hp Yamaha 2-stroke older outboard that's never been in salt water. I plan to use in salt and brackish in August. Should I flush it out afterward? It'll probably be at least 2 hours before I can get it to a fresh water hook up after running it in the salt.
Thanks.

Flush it as soon as you can and make sure the prop shaft is greased well. Without grease, removing the prop will be a real problem in a few years.

Good advise.

I tried to "FLUSH" my outboard, but it wouldn't fit in the toilet. Sorry couldn't resist!
