It will take some time but you will get it. Make sure you’re not marking schools of fish. I did that when I started and then when returned they had moved on.
After I have had my new boat for about 2 months now I am finally getting to where I can catch some fish with it, not anywhere close to a limit but catching some, finally starting to trust my electronics on my boat, still not real sure about side imaging. What it shows sometimes, and I mark the spot with a way mark, then go back and cannot find anything is pretty confusing in a way. Still searching with sidescan though and regular down scan. Still learning, I know it don’t come easy, slots of people think you can just install it and the fish come, not so easy.

Forgot to mention 15-20 mph winds today, wind is not your friend when livescoping. But a little wind surely helps, keeps you off your spot by staying down wind.

as mentioned above make sure you zoom all the way in when returning to a marked waypoint

Side imaging is on an angle so the way point will be off some compared to a straight down view. Lots of folks waypoint something on side image then go remark it on 2D because it's more accurate.

If you have Livescope ... use that to find your waypoint cover, rather than Downscan. That way you can sweep the whole area as you approach it.

I search with side imaging & mark waypoints from the console. Then i get on the bow & get close to the waypoint since my humminbirds are ethernetted & with the range at 50 feet on the bow unit & with the 30 foot circles around the waypoints i'll ease up to that particular waypoint looking for it on livescope. Very easy to find & also look for fish on them when easing up towards it.
