For straight minnow rigs I like a #2 gold hook over a 2/0 or 3/0. If fishing the big 4 in Mississippi I probably would opt for the bigger hook. As far as tipping a jig with a minnow I like an 1/8 oz head with a #2 hook.
I have really noticed a change in equipment since I was a youngster, back then the preferred "Arkansas hook" was a 1/0-2/0 eagle claw gold hook. I just wanted to know what everyone preferred before I order some.
thanks!

Depends on fish and minnow size. You wouldn't hook a small minnow with a 1/0 hook, and you wouldnt hook a large fathead with a #6. You also wouldnt target a 10" fish with a 1/0 hook and you wouldnt target a 14" fish with a #6.
I use #6, #4, and #2. All Aberdeen light wire.

Eagle claw 214EL for sure.
I couldn’t find them after Covid so wife ordered me a couple hundred from the factory.
They are also what I use when tying my double minnow rigs.
They are bronze and very light wire allowing them to straighten out when you get hung up.
Also let’s the minnow swim without restriction.

I still use Eagle Claw snelled #6 and #4 from Walmart. Easy. Light. Bendable. Small so the minnow can swim.

Do you use the gold or bronze?

Do you attach to a swivel? Or directly to a line?
