Freeze them fillets in water and they’ll stay good thru summer and fall. Nice catch.

If mine all would be gone in a few days. Shellcrackers eat fantastic blackened and served over grits, deep fried in fish fry, pan seared in a egg wash then served over pasta with a lemon /garlic / butter & herb sauce, you can even brine in a brown sugar & soy sauce brine then smoke in a upright hot smoker, taste like ham when done right. Really a wonderful, versatile, delicious fish. Great catch, Shellcrackers are a sucker for a red worm served at the end of a roll cast of floating fly line.
Yep, I've been twice, they don't last long.Sent from my LM-G900 using Crappie.com Fishing mobile app
I’ve been catching a few really nice shellcrackers lately while catching crappie on a flat, maybe in 6 to 10 feet of water. Only caught a few shellcrackers but tons of dink crappie. Any suggestions to target the shellcrackers? i thought of putting a redworm on a little jig and toss it out on the bottom but figured these dink crappie would be all over it.

I fish with red worm's, slip cork, set so that worm is dangling just off the bottom. It doesnt last long when they're biting
