I know a retired mailman who fishes for specks year round. He trolls 1/32oz. jigs with his 14’ boat. He usually does all of his fishing in Lake Poinsette with consistent catches of good size and limits. I last saw him in the end of September and he said, because of high water levels in the St. John’s River, he was having better success in Lake Washington.

Figured I would report back...drowned minnows in multiple spots on Poinsette and even down to Lake Winder. Big fat nothing! I am sure more me than anything but did not see a lot to get me excited about returning there anytime soon. Thanks to those that gave some feed back...again I am sure it was more me to blame.

Lake Washington ramp area can be a bit of a zoo due to all the people in the area. It also isnt the easiest place to get to from I 95.
Try staying on I 95 to the 192 exit at Melbourne, exit to the west on 192 about 2 miles to the river, and Camp Holly which will be on the east bound side of the road. They have a private ramp on the river for a small fee. About a mile north on the river to the south end of Lake Washington. Or, since the water is high and assuming your the adventuresome type, head south on the river to lake Sawgrass, then little Lake Sawgrass, then Hell n Blazes. You will probably be all alone. Shallow draft is best at places, but with the water up it should be fine.
