Dead crickets before going on the hook catch gills
Here lately I been using the dead crickets on the bottom of my cricket box instead of tossing them, anyone else use them.
If its not went to the soft mushy stage and will stay on the hook they work for me. Fresh live ones don't live long under the water so I figured whats the difference. I don't know how long it takes for a dead one to go to the soft stage so I been throwing them into the freezer when I find them until I'm ready to go fishing. They seem to be in good shape when thawed out.

Many people here in ETN buy their crickets in bulk and freeze them in baggies of 100 or so to be thawed out later. The hard core Float and Fly Smallmouth fisherman use the frozen crickets in the middle of winter to tip their small flies and jigs with, a secret to catching big brownies in 40 degree waters!
