Yeap, the beds are active here still and months of it left.....
With most of the actual sunfish species here locally , not many of them have a post spawn until about ....maybe October ?
I am not trying to stir it up , but bluegill and longear and greens in these parts bed off and on thru out the summer months .
i have read post spawn several times from up north to far east and we are in the heat in Texas and a sunfish are spawning like crazy right now .
So it would seem to me either the fish in other areas of the country are much different than the ones here or maybe the fish in those areas are not done spawning ?
just a quick fyi from what we see in our little corner of the country .
carry on ....

i find sunfish on beds by the shore in the middle of the summer all the time ,especially early in the morning .
its not unusual to walk up to a shore line early and see herds of them bolt off the beds to deeper water .
pretty sure most of the actual reproductive activity is done in the wee hours though and often they are not present in those spots at midday .

The deeper beds are the opposite, I've found midday to early evening is the best..... Especially for the bigger fish here.....

Last year I caught more spawning BG in August than I did the other months combined. The shellies not so much they were gone after full moon in May. You gotta move quick if you plan on keeping fish. I use a cooler with ice. I never use the live well after May.

in MO see the BG's in different beds thru august on private lake I fished for years. now on larger lakes not sure where they bed but sure they have deep water ones havn't found yet.
I have five active pumpkinseed nests going on near shore in shallow water 6" deep. I also noticed a pair of bluegills going at it in the same area and they were only a few years old. What gives ?!!!
What I also found interesting was conditioning sunfish to accumulate near where I stand by having thrown bread ball to them at my feet and near weeds. More interesting is walking along the shoreline and having them follow me around even if I haven't yet thrown bread at that time!! Conditioning of fish is a proven fact yet they still forget having been caught on certain lures and strike them again.
