What’s the batter/process for your onion rings?

Have done this cook many times, reported it here a few, but a good fresh mess of BlueGill and a Full Moon inspired me. Look over on the Panfish board under Perfect 10 for the details of today’s catch. Nothing like lake to table same day. Anyway, devoid of skin scales fins and guts we find the firm white fillets of what is in my opinion the best eating fresh water fish swimming in my waters. The players before and after.
?
?Down to the same table where they met their demise.
?
Fish done, I noticed I went a little too heavy on the black pepper, will hear about that from the wife I am sure.
?
Rings done, golden brown. Then plated up with a few fresh veggies and dip.
?
Enjoy the plate.....

I have tried many recipes for Onion Rings over the years, but have settled on this one as a family favorite. Locally available for about a buck a package. If you want Beer Battered Onion Rings just substitute a GOOD beer for the water requirements.

Good stuff for sure, what market do you get the ring batter at?

Thanks for sharing that! One question though. Why does it have to be good beer if you substitute that for water? Because you Drink what you don’t use?

I maybe should have said full strength beer and not light beer. I tried using Corona Light and the batter did not stick as well. Same with Corona Premier. However, I tried Landshark once and it was even worse. Regular Corona works the best for me, your mileage may vary. It is easy to tell when you mix the beer and the dry packet, it will just not be sticky on the raw onions. And I do enjoy the leftover cold beer while cooking fish and rings

Looks like you hit em just right with the black pepper. That's how we do it in my home. My wifey is gonna dunk em in ketchup anyway.....yuck! Onion rings looked great too. Thanks for posting the pics.
