Fun times for sure! Congrats on a good trip! Thanks for sharing
My nephew asked me to go along with him for a few hours of trout fishing today. The river we fished is not only an excellent trout stream it holds some serious size black nose crappie. But my nephew is only interested in catching trout and or smallmouth. The trout were not in a biting mood today. I did catch 8 trout but only got 2 in the boat. I was using a new lure today....a Jackall Timon Metal Kuroball 3.5 gram. The lure has a single barbless hook and most of the trout got off right at the boat......may have to order some barbed hooks from Chris to swap out. For those who read this and trout fish this lure is a must have in my opinion. I have used it several times at Normandy already and trout slam it. My nephew gave me 30 minutes before we left to fish the catch basin right below the dam. For those 30 minutes the action was nonstop. I used a Bison colored Trout Magnet to catch crappie and bluegill. While the bluegill were not very big they were chunky and were colored up nicely. It is odd to me that the bluegill in the lakes I fish lose their color in the winter yet the bluegill in the Caney Fork do not. The crappie have beautiful colors there also. The water there stays between 52-58 degrees all year long. I used the Finezza Prototype rod for the trout and the Ice Cube Rockin’ Finesse for the crappie and bluegill. The line on the Ice Cube was the Varivas ester 2.1# test. The catch basin is chock full of crappie.....bluegill....and while I didn’t catch any.....sturgeon in the 2 foot range are quite numerous. My son and I will be there early Thursday morning for sure. I hate to leave biting fish.....but had to go.

That is an interesting day , and whats really interesting is that yawl are allowed to go up in spillways right up to the dam.there are almost none in Texas that allows that anymore .
They put a stop to it years ago in these parts and it sure did make it tough on me as lots of my favorite spots were below the dam on numerous lakes .
Count your blessings some politician or law enforcement or government entity hasn't put up the buoy line way below where the fish are my friend .
sum kawl me tha outlaw ketchn whales
Well.....they did put up buoy lines back around 2011 or so on the Corp of Engineers Dams. Then in 2013 Congress passed the “Freedom to Fish Act” and the buoys came down and all went back to what folks had been doing since the dams were created. This covered the tail waters in KY and TN on the Cumberland and Tennessee Rivers. When the law first passed it was just a moratorium for 2 years...it has since become permanent.

Awesome looking fish and photos
The love for fishing is one of the best gifts you can pass along
Definitely a mixed bag! Nicely done!
I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me.
I was thinking the same thing. That is still a big no no below Arkansas USACE dams. Wish we could get closer. I have done some sampling in these areas and they are loaded with big fish. Go figure!

Awesome day Randy! I wish we could get that close to the dams in Arkansas.

You can. Just don't get caught.

Crappie bite twice a day. 15 minutes before I get there and 10 minutes after I leave.
The two loudest sounds are a gun that goes bang when it is supposed to go click and one that goes click when it is supposed to go bang.
If you rob Peter to pay Paul, you can generally count on Paul's vote.
Nice catch, hope you whack them next week and do a video of the sore lipping!
