Grass on Wheeler
Been seeing some pretty heavy grass showing up in places I haven't seen it before. How will that affect temperatures and bait fish. Seen some grass in some stumpy 8 ft flats and I was wondering if that would make them come up earlier. Only been crappie fishing year round for 5 years.

The grass is definitely making a comeback. 15 or so years ago it was so thick you had to stay in the channels in the backwaters around swan creek-west dike gate area. I use to fish Guntersville years ago and the grass held bait fish as well as the crappie and bass. The back water channels will be easy to see when they drop the water in a couple of weeks. They should hold some good fish. It is aggravating to fish but will definitely improve the fishing.

Thanks. I remember when TVA killed it off. I remember half the fisherman was the glad and the other half was mad. I was playing golf back then.

That is me too, I remember when it was thick and was killed off but I was raising kids and coaching ball so I never fished it. My buddies all hated to see it go. I took a short run out on the river today and saw grass in a couple or areas I had not seen it before, I need to get out and check it out.
