That's why I do it.... It's definitely a different feeling of achievement.....
You know, there is something very gratifying about catching fish on lures you made yourself. I went out Saturday up to Bowie with some of my first hand-tied jigs and caught at least a limit. Only had about a dozen that were legal size, but caught a bunch over brush on a creek ledge in about 15 fow. Started with a gray jig, then went to gray/chart, black/chart, then orange/chart. Caught on all of them. Gray was best before the sun got up, then the orange/chart was best. Water was a little stained due to rain the day prior. I reckon I'm hopelessly hooked on tying my own jigs now!

If I get the time I want to get some materials and tie some up. I'm sure it's a great feeling.
I make all my crappie & Bluegill jigs, lures and spoons. It is a blast.
I almost enjoy the tying part better... until you set the hook on a large crappie. Nothing better than that. Well... almost nothing.
