Oh, ok, I gotcha. I actually mounted my transducer to the hull in a pool of Goop. So far, so good.

I was lucky that my kayak came with a transducer compartment and cover so i cant help you with mounting. I must say though that the garmin striker 4 or striker 4 cv are my favorite sonar for kayaks. got mine at academy for under 100 dollars after price match and i would pay double that. I am about to get the striker 4 cv for my other Kayak and see if the clear vue makes a big difference. The gps and navigation is very good along with the user interface. Customer service was amazing too while setting it up.

I have a Ride 115 with a Hook 4. I made a scupper transducer mount with some pvc pipe. Cut the pipe a hair long, drilled a hole straight through, then just use a 1.5" screw through it to hold in place. Run the transducer cable up thru, connect to fish finder. Have battery in a waterproof box that just sits by my feet. Works pretty good for me.
I use a Garmin Striker 4 in my Jackson. I stuck the transducer to the inside of the hull with duct seal. Works great.
I have previously used a Garmin 70DV with the transducer mounted the same way. It was a battery hog but otherwise worked fine.

Borrowed a friend's fishing buddy to try on my sit in sun dolphin. Pulled whole rig hard and made paddling almost impossible. It's the pole connected to transducer causing excess drag. My 2 cents worth... Fishing buddy on yak doesn't work,at all.

I've got a Wilderness Systems Pungo 120 (sit inside) with a Lowrance Hook 4X. I bought a liquid-tight plastic box that I cut the bottom out of to match the contour of the floor under the seat. I mounted the box to the floor with goop, so the transducer can shoot signals through the hull. I keep the transducer in the box and fill the box with water when I want to use it. It works great and is well protected. The battery is in a liquid-tight box kept strapped to the back of the seat frame with speed release clips.

I have a Hobbie ProAngler 12 with a Humminbird Helix 5 with side imaging. I mounted it in the bow for several years with pretty good success using clear silicone but I have now made a bracket that mounts on the front of my yak and I can pull a cord and it rotates down into the water while I fish. I can pull another cord and it rotates up out of the water so I can beach my boat in rocks and such. The picture is perfect because I'm not shooting through the hull. It was ok shooting through the hull but it's clearer in the front. I've always liked my transducer in the front of the boat.
