I love DI more so for single pole fishermen, I agree, but it don't mean I won't mark it on my finder and come back over it pushing minners or pulling cranks right over the top of it every now and again, or even drop a jig on top of it when I see fit.. Which way did you go OP?
Looking my self and very confused but things I think are important are SI and GPS, looks like the 9 inch humminbird or 10 is what I will look at most seriously.
You gotta have si/di at the console! The single easiest way to find bait/fish in my opinion. I have a 360 but I leave it at home most of the time.
I only use 2d at the bow. It'll tell me the little info I need there. When I'm at the bow, I've already seen fish from the console on si.
You GOTTA have gps and a lake master map! I use it 100% of my trips to the lake.
Map chip will not help, at all at Washington. Game changer on the big 4 in my humble opinion. I'm not sure I'd go to the lake without it now.
No disrespect to the lowrance guys, but the mapping is terrible on the lowrance. I bought a hds 12 this spring, and sold it after I saw it wasn't at all accurate on these lakes.

The helix 9 has a lower resolution screen than the 10. If you can afford it, bigger is DEFINITELY better

Map chip on the Humminbird is a must. It will keep you out of trouble if you properly set the water off set and highlight the shallow areas. In Grenada there are spots that you might think have lots of water that are only going to be a foot or two deep and your in the middle of the lake. I never leave a ramp without the map.
