Good shots were you casting or trolling. I bought the 9 in garmin but I have not taken the time to get used to it.
Got these shots yesterday evening. Every once in a while, I will stray away from crappie fishing and go striper fishing with umbrella rigs. I came across this on the depthfinder and said "OH BOY"...5, 4, 3, 2, 1...and both rods went ziiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnggggggggggggg! !!! The fight was on.

Came across this again while out fishing. Big school of stripers!!!
ive been seeing a lot of returns that look like this recently. I know wood typically doesn't show a good return on the 2D, would this suggest that here are crappie or some sort of fish held up tight against the trees?
ive been wondering about this, glad I came across this screenshot.

As you can see the screenshot is in 2d and Downimaging. It is the same structure that you are seeing on both. The down shows the structure a lot better. On the top picture you can see a few fish (white dots) on the screen. Thats why its good to always have a split screen distinguishing the two.

Cedar will inherently not reflect as much Sonar sound pulse as hardwood ...
Sonar discerns targets by their difference in density of the target from the density of the water itself ...
Cedar boughs have a very similar density as water (well ... more similar density than hardwood) ...
