Default Kentucky Lake Cranking Report July 1

I went cranking this morning and caught 15 crappie of those one was short. All were caught at 1.7 mph and most with black bubblegum. 80% were caught on turns. I tried different speeds and finally just keep turning. Got run off the lake by 1:00 by holiday traffic.

Don, it looks like you should be teaching the crankbait seminar at the KY Shin-dig this year. It's tough up this way.

Are you pulling on the main lake or in bays?

I'm in the last part of a bay. I think most have already gone to the main lake. I expect it to get real tough in the next week or two. I knew that were not pulling much current when I tried on the main lake today and could not tell the difference between the lake and the bay. Except I didn't catch any fish. I plan of being at KY Shin-dig this year, there there is much more for me to learn. I am real interested in starting to paint my on baits. I am just lucky I have found a good spot and no one else is pulling there. And I only have the one spot.

Good job. The north end had put up a " closed for the holidays" sign, the fish are gone!! We need some rain in this river system badly.

Which line on the turns the inside or outside? If it is one over the other, then it is a speed issue (faster outside, slower inside).

80% in the turns, you might need to go in a circle ---- ;-) joking I have had the same luck in turns. Do you think the lures come up ? That maybe i'm running under the fish.
Good report. What lure are you using? When I was young, I airbrushed a few lures and got a big kick out of it when i got a fish on them.

Never thought of that. I'll watch that from now on. Thanks for the tip.
