Reading that article, it was a post from July 23, 2014, and I bet it was a typo, 22" probably should be 12". Notice water temp was posted at 86 degrees.
Hmmmmm.................. According to this article in a local newspaper, Beaverdam Park ranger Michelle Hostinsky has seen several 22" and larger crappie!

I don't know what to think. The linked article said "She said several citation crappie were hooked measuring over 22 inches." The 22 may have been a typo and 12 was correct--but a 12" crappie is not a citation. 15" is the minimum for a length citation.
I'm with you, Corker .... you'd think that if a person turned in a fish for "citation" status, at 22" in length, it would have been weighed & registered as a possible state record. And if it was a Black Crappie ... a possible World Record ??
Our KY State Record 4lb 14oz fish was a potential IGFA World Record Black Crappie (at the time it was caught) until it was found to be a naturally occurring crossbreed. KY doesn't distinguish between Black/White Crappie species ... but, the IGFA does.

Hmmm....22 inches is the length for largemouth bass citation. Surely someone did not confuse a 22 inch bass with a 22 inch crappie. Here is what the Outdoor Report said "Twelve length citations have been measured at the Ranger Station during the month of January, we even measured a 22 inch crappie, so big it looked like a flounder."

I have heard from a good source about a 21 inch crappie caught about 7 years ago at buggs island by a bass fisherman on a deep diving norman crankbait, and the fish was only measured and released. My source of info on this has a 4lb. crappie of his own that went 18 and one half inches. not from buggs though.
How about one of y'all down that way stop by that Ranger Station and check the story out. Perhaps they have a picture. Lunch on me for the guy who checks. Inquiring minds want to know.....
Id like to no myself. What is the world record white and black crappie?
