Wind was blowing so hard My Grandson lost his cap and there were white caps on the water. We ventured out to see if we could catch a few slab bream with Cajun Rays secret green worms since they should be getting ready to spawn soon.

The day started off slow as the vegetation was so thick it kept us from getting within 15 feet of the bank near the shallower water. We only keep them if they are 7” or bigger. We had kept 2 when I cast near the vegetation edge and my cork disappeared with a thump sound. When I set the hook I thought I had a catfish since it was pulling drag on the ultra lite pole and reel spooled with 6 lb braid and a #6 mosquito hook.

I horsed it in to the boat and my grandson wasn’t much interested since I had told him I got a cat. When it got next to the boat and broke water he almost tossed me out the 14 ft John boat when he sprung to help me get it over the side of the boat and on to the deck. As we took in the size of it we had no words.
It was easily my personal best PB shell Craker. It measured a little over 12’ and it had an 11 3/4“ girth. It weighed right under 1 1/2 lbs.

We ended up with 4 fish in the box but this one fish made our day.

Bon Temps!!
