The males have been fanning their beds already(split tails).Just a matter of water temp now to put em' on the beds.Water temp last time I checked was 68 degrees.Won't be too long. We've had an unusually warm spring this year.

    Hello All

Will be travelling to Milwaukee, Wisconsin this August from San Antonio, Texas and was wondering if there are any decent crappie lakes within 3 hours of Milwaukee that I can try. Appreciate any assistance that you can provide.

Try Lake Geneva and I would try another called Castle Rock Lake near Madison. Both have decent size crappies.

In Castle Rock Lake,a friend says to find the flats and troll tiny crankbaits around, like the Yo-Zuri Snap Beans or use tiny Rapala floating cranks for surface feeding crappie.

Haven't heard any recent reports about Lake Geneva from my brother lately but they are decent when you hook into them.

Good luck and let us know how you do!

Crappie Magnet do you fish any of the lakes around Hayward? My wife is from the town of Hayward and we go there alot to visit her family...I have done a good bit of ice fishing for crappie as well as northerns. Haven't caught many big fish but I have caught alot of them. One spring I'll bet between three of us we caught probably 300 or more in just a few hours on a small lake just outside of Hayward about 8 or so miles.

I fish from Duluth/Superior for walleye's to Chequamegon Bay for smallies to Janesville Wi for bluegill and cover the NW area mostly.I rarely fish the SW corner.Too much trout.LOL

Hayward is a great area to fish with many 100's of lakes to choose from.Solon Springs also holds a great chain of lakes.I mostly fish from Spooner to St.Croix Falls as far east as the Chetek Chain for panfish.
